A leading UK asphalt design company based in Derbyshire says it will go ahead and create jobs after receiving a £72,000 grant from the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund.
Ripley-based Cooper Research Technology will put the grant towards a research and development project to design new asphalt-testing equipment for the civil engineering industry. The DEGF grant will support the programme which costs £240,000.
The testing equipment, set to USA testing standards, will enable the company to export to North America, the Far East and Middle East. Managing Director Peter Grafton explained that around four jobs would be created as part of the R&D programme including engineering and specialist sales staff.
“We are growing our international markets all the time and this development programme is key to our further expansion. “It is extremely difficult to source funding from high street lenders for research and development so the grant support from DEGF has been crucial to make these expansion plans a reality.
“Our business is a perfect fit with DEGF, being a manufacturing SME offering a strong skills set in the engineering sector, which is the life blood of the local economy.”
